Today is a special day. We have calendar Imbolc coupled with a rare Palindrome Day when the eight-digit date 02/02/2020 reads the same forwards as it does backwards. It’s super rare because it works globally; in the U.S. with month/day/year, as well as for other places with day/month/year format. It also works for year/month/day. A universal palindrome like this will be the only one this century! The last eight-digit palindrome like this was 11/11/1111, 909 years ago. The next is in 101 years’ time on 12/12/2121 and then 03/03/3030. What’s more, today is the 33rd day of the year, followed by 333 more days, thanks to 2020 being a leap year.

The numerology of today’s date is remarkable and full of potential. The number 0 represents God, or the divine and infinite Source of all creation, and brings potential and/or choice. 0 reinforces, amplifies and magnifies the vibrations of the numbers it appears with. 0 invites us listen to our intuition. The number 2 represents responsibility, partnership, balance, peace, harmony and all high vibrational heart qualities, such as kindness and love. Negatively, number 2 means irresponsibility, apathy, fearfulness, pessimism and cruelty. So, today is definitely a day for keeping your vibe high!

And what better way to keep the vibe high than by honouring and celebrating Imbolc? Based on a Celtic tradition, Imbolc marks the halfway point between Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox and brings with it the potential and promise of new life. That potential for new beginnings is extremely potent with the Palindrome and numerology.

In the Welsh magical tradition Gwyddon, we observe Imbolc – Crothnos – on the first new moon following calendar Imbolc, but other traditions stick to the calendar date.

Crothnos initiates the Tide of the Green One and its opposite is Lammas (Medelgroth). Crothnos is The Night of the Womb and it is also the purification and rebirth of the Womb when its powers return to Abred (physical realm) from Annwn (the realm of death, or the womb of the physical realm).

When the purity of the snowdrop and the crocus are seen, we light sacred fires to purify the land and our homes. We welcome the return of the Green Maiden from the tomb of winter. The Green Maiden brings light and hope and we ask that this light reach every darkened recess and every heart. We also honour and welcome the Green Man at this time, whose seed impregnates the land. Together, they are The Green One. Crothnos is the greening of the land and denotes new life and preparation of new life.

The Green Man

As part of the honouring, we create wreaths and/or a Green Man. The (specific) materials are collected in a sacred manner and as we create the wreaths and the Green Man we focus our intent on the coming 6 moons and weave our wishes into our creations. During the Crothnos ceremony, we burn the wreath from the previous Lammas as we give thanks for and reflect upon the last six moons and we welcome and bless the new wreath and/or Green Man. As we do so, we focus again on the wishes weaved into the new creation.

Today is a magical day and a wonderful time to birth new beginnings. You don’t have to do a full-blown ceremony. One simple way to honour today is to take a candle, light it in a sacred manner and honour the turning of the wheel and the coming of more light. Gaze into the candle flame and give thanks for the blessings in your life. Focus on new, heart-felt beginnings full of love, light, peace and harmony.

May your Imbolc fire burn bright, and may your vibe be high and light!

With love and Imbolc Blessings,
Karen 💕
